It makes no difference how a person goes about getting into the deep end of the financial pool.  Once their feet start to slip,  whether it be from illness, job loss, mis-management, or any other reason,  the water closes rapidly over their heads. Very few people will admit to slipping slowly into the need for Credit Debt Relief and most will tell you that they never saw it coming.

But what can be done when faced with the reality of drowning in debt?  The options range from anywhere between doing nothing and declaring bankruptcy.  Read on to discover three of the more attractive options that are available today for credit lifesaving.

The first option for credit relief is only available to those that still own a home or real property that has a net value in excess of the outstanding mortgage.  If you fall into this category you may want to consider a debt consolidation loan to provide your credit card relief.  You use the equity in your home to borrow money to pay off your other outstanding debts.  By extending the length of the payments and drastically reducing the interest being paid on credit cards,  you can lower your monthly payments.  The downside is that if you fall behind in these payments you can have your home foreclosed and you will have exhausted the equity in your home.  On the positive side you will have paid off your creditors,  safe guarded your credit rating, and reduced your bills to one.

Consumer Credit Counseling is also available to address your credit card debt relief.  In this process you are counseled in how to meet your outstanding debts.  You will learn the principals of responsible spending and bill paying.  It will not reduce the amount you owe but will give you the opportunity to learn budgeting.  You need to be committed to a responsible financial lifestyle if counseling is to be effective for you.

Finally if the money you owe is completely out of control and you have a substantial debt,  typically in the $7,500 or above range,  you might be eligible for a debt settlement plan for credit debt relief.  It is not granted to everyone and you have to apply for it.  If accepted you will be counseled on the ramifications.  Your representative will then contact your creditors and do a debt negotiation to reduce payments  of anywhere from 40% to 60% of your outstanding debt.  The amount you repay each month will be determined by how much your income is and your ability to pay.  Be sure you understand your contract with the group managing your debt before you agree to it.
